Sky Quilt Series

Made from repurposed tea bags, the sky quilts are flags to life processes and cycles: seasons, tides, waxing, waning, weathering, aging, sleeping and renewal. Rich blues and earth tones invoke ever-changing skies, waters and ground. They are more than the sum of their parts, they are gestalt. They are both individual and community, the thoughts that come during meditation and the wholeness we return to when we let them go; they are the rupture and repair that challenge and strengthen our families and deep relationships. They are both many and one; they are neither one nor many.

After gently emptying tea leaves, the tea bags were flattened and collaged with matte medium, painted with black tea pigment, then coated with cyanotype emulsion and exposed to the sun. The delicacy of the material speaks to impermanence, fragility of life, the preciousness of the form we have and opportunities it affords.
